Dogs can give love without any boundaries. They can be trained to be compassionate and caring towards other animals. They can also be taught to rescue animals in need.
Zoey, an Alaskan malamute from Nashville, Tennessee, was one amazing dog who was willing to help anyone in need. Her fur dad was able to teach her to be compassionate towards other animals that were sick and lost.
A sick fawn with swollen eyes wandered into Miller Holler band member Pat Pollifrone’s yard. Pat knew those wild animals should stay in the woods, so he brought the young deer back there. However, the fawn went back to his yard again the following day. That was when he noticed that the fawn was sick and needed help.
Pat named the fawn Bambi.
The fawn seemed to be dehydrated and hungry as well. He gave the fawn some food and water. He even placed the deer in a shaded area and let her lie down on ice packs to keep her cool.
Most dogs would be territorial towards strangers, but Zoey did the opposite. She didn’t scare the poor fawn away from the yard and instead, she helped Pat to take care of the sick fawn. She would comfort the fawn by giving her cuddles and kisses as if she was the mom. She would often go near the fawn to assure her that she would be fine.
Pat did some research on taking care of a sick fawn. He also called several animal rescue groups near his place to seek help. Unfortunately, none of the centers he contacted were equipped to take care of wild animals. He continued taking care of Bambi while he continued to search for an expert to take care of her.
Thankfully, Pat was able to contact Gibson County Goat Ranch and they volunteered to take care of Bambi. Gibson County Goat Ranch would take care of Bambi after she recovered from her eye infection and she would be released in the wild when she had recovered.
Thank you, Pat and Zoey, for opening your doors to Bambi and for taking care of her!
