Couple Alexander Heritier and Madeleine Erba knew exactly who they wanted as their ring bearer on their wedding day: Daisy, an arson-detection dog. The pair spent a year training the black labrador before she began working for Detective John Peters at the Westchester County police force.
Madeleine claimed that Daisy is an integral element of their relationship. Three months into her romance with Al, she met Daisy. He never questioned why she volunteered to raise her and even assisted in her training.
Peters and his six-year-old dog traveled to Michigan for the special occasion. She was definitely the highlight of the entire event. As the ring bearer, she received multiple “Awws” as she walked down the aisle. She marched down the aisle, accompanied by Detective Peters who was in full uniform.
Additionally, Daisy provided a lot of comic relief. The best man had difficulties removing the jewelry on Daisy, and after several unsuccessful attempts, she threw him off balance. In an attempt to apologize, she immediately licked his cheek. There is nothing to worry about though as both the best man and the dog were unharmed.
In 2011, Alexander and Madeleine, both recent veterinary school graduates, decided to train Daisy for one year through the nonprofit group Pause with a Cause. This was the beginning of their intimate friendship. The objective was to prepare the dog for her new role.
She was first trained to assist an individual with a disability, but her skills were ideal for a K-9 fire-detection dog. They had really no idea that, after a few years, she would undergo a new, extremely particular training, just for the important wedding ceremony.
Daisy left the pair to participate in the State Farm Arson Dog Program. The couple intends to maintain contact and pay Daisy and Peters visits. In the meantime, they maintain contact with Daisy through social media.
