Liz received a text from her neighbor about a little cat meowing behind his bushes. Liz went to her neighbor’s house with a can of tuna in her hand and recalled being surprised when she saw the tiny kitten suffering from a broken leg and malnutrition.
Liz shared how frightened the kitten was when she first saw her. Liz saw how pitiful the kitty was because she kept dragging her broken front leg around, so she decided to put the cat in her car and head straight to the vet.
The veterinarians examined the kitten and determined that they needed to have it amputated. Liz wanted to get the cat home with her, so she drove back to her house right after the kitty’s medical checkup.
Liz recalled that the cat she named Huckleberry immediately started purring loud when she placed the kitty on her chest. Liz admitted that she was worried about her dog, Luca’s reaction towards Huckleberry because he always gets excited whenever he sees cats.
Liz wanted Huckleberry to have her own little space where she could decompress, so she put up a gate between the bathroom and bedroom to separate Luca from Huckleberry. She also opened the bottom drawer of her closet and made it Huckleberry’s room.
It took Luca a while to understand, but when he learned that Huckleberry would only interact with him if he is calm, he tried his best to be much more relaxed whenever Huckleberry was around. Huckleberry eventually started interacting with Luca, and the two animals became inseparable.
Huckleberry learned many things from Luca, including walking on a leash and fetching random things like toys and hair ties. Liz shared that Huckleberry is like a dog in many ways, and she has Luca to thank for that because he was the one who raised Huckleberry to be who she is.
