A woman named Kinga Szpakiewicz and her 80-pound Rottweiler named Lusha enjoy trekking together. Hiking provides the pair with an opportunity to bond. Because of this, they frequently spend many days hiking in California.
For Kinga and Lusha, hiking is an opportunity to escape the chaos of everyday life. However, when things go wrong, hiking may not be the best thing. During their recent hike, Kinga and Lusha learned this lesson the hard way.
During their three-day walk on the Sespe Creek Tail in the Los Padres National Forest, Lusha suffered a paw injury. This problem made it hard for Lusha to complete the hike. This meant that Kinga needed to find someone who can transport her enormous dog home.
Thankfully, other hikers spotted Kinga and Lusha. Kinga realized that she could not carry Lusha by herself, thus the other hikers were a blessing in disguise. The issue did not really end there, however, as the hikers were four miles from the nearest trailhead.
Because of this, the hikers carried the dog to a safe spot before retiring for the night. Throughout the entire thing, Lusha appeared calm so Kinga felt the same. The dog’s condition did not improve the following morning though, so the original plan to bring her home had to continue.
After a few more steps, the group arrived at a location with a signal for mobile phones. Kinga took advantage of this and requested for help from Upper Ojai Search & Rescue quickly. As soon as the organization heard about the situation, volunteers rushed to the location.
Six crew members formed the rescue group and they went to the hikers’ location to assist in rescuing Lusha. Although the trek back was difficult, the rescuers were determined. They traversed rivers and other hurdles with the dog to bring her home safely. Kinga praised the rescuers for their support.
