Six weeks ago, in North Dakota, a dispatcher named Tami Moore responded to a report regarding a pit bull found lying in the middle of the road. At first, the guy who found the pooch thought she was only a piece of cardboard. He then realized that she was a poor dog on the verge of death. It seemed that someone had abandoned her as the temperature dropped to -45 degrees Fahrenheit.
Deputies wrapped the pit bull, now named Dreamer, in blankets and even used bottles with hot water to help warm her body up. Then, they took her to a vet for some emergency care. Her temperature was low, and she had a heart rate of only 35, with a low probability of survival.
The next day, the pitbull was discharged and brought to an animal shelter, Journey Home Animal Rescue. However, she was not out of danger yet; fortunately, staff members and volunteers felt determined to help Dreamer thrive. They gave her medications, a special diet, and warm cuddles.
Dreamer improves as days pass. Compared to her condition six weeks prior, she is very much full of life now. Currently, the rescue dog is in a foster home and will be available for adoption once she’s fully recovered. Fortunately for her, she is being spoiled and pampered by her foster parents just as she deserves.
Meanwhile, the authorities already located Dreamer’s previous owner and charged them with abandonment and animal cruelty for neglecting the poor dog. If convicted, the perpetrator will spend several years in prison.
After this incident, the shelter staff reminded fur parents that pets couldn’t survive severe weather conditions. If someone can’t provide for their dog, abandoning the dog should never be an option. Instead, they should contact animal rescue centers for more humane alternatives.
