It was around 9:00 am when Christie Chipps Peters, the director of Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC), an animal shelter, saw an abandoned dog named Olympus under her office window. The pooch was so skinny and looked like a skeleton. It was a miracle that he was still alive.
Right away, she took him to her car. However, despite her seat warmers and the heat set high in the car, Christine wasn’t sure if Olympus could survive the drive to the animal hospital.
Upon arriving at the hospital, the staff worked fast to raise his body temperature. Olympus was too cold that there was no reading on the thermometer. In addition, his blood pressure was so low that they couldn’t place an intravenous line. However, in the end, all their efforts paid off.
They managed to get Olympus warmed up and began by administering subcutaneous fluids. After that, all staff could do was pray and wait that the dog’s body was strong enough to survive the night.
Miraculously, Olympus managed to survive. Not long after, he could already eat and keep down his meals. However, although his health has improved, he is not out of danger yet. He still needs plenty of prayers and love.
Meanwhile, the RACC is searching for the person responsible for the neglect and abuse that Olympus has gone through. Fortunately, local authorities obtained security camera footage and are investigating multiple leads.
Security footage shows the poor dog discarded on concrete in the middle of the night. The video also shows that Olympus falls as he tries to run after his owner. Before Christie found him, he had to wait for seven hours outside in the cold.
It is unsure when Olympus will be up for adoption. But according to the animal shelter, they will provide updates regarding his health and when he’s available for adoption.
