When Dobby and his owner stepped into the vet clinic to get the treatment that Dobby needs, no one there could believe their eyes. The dog was all red and furless, and no one could tell what it was. The staff were taken aback and felt really sad for it, but they realized they had to assist him right at that moment.
Sara Harper, a veterinary technician, first encountered Dobby in January 2016. She works for Concerned Citizens for Animal Welfare, a charity group that aims to lessen pet overpopulation. Sarah was encouraged to assist in helping treat Dobby after witnessing him for herself.
Dobby was brought in by a woman who told the personnel that he is about five years old and has never seen a veterinarian before.
Sarah and the other staff were horrified by the dog’s malnutrition. His toenails became so long that they went right into his forefoot pads. The staff also described the dog as red and bloody.
Dobby’s owner admitted to using flea powder used for carpets ready for vacuuming as she refused to spend any money on the dog. This is why Sarah pleaded with the owner to allow them to care for Dobby themselves, and the owner thankfully consented to surrendering the dog.
One of the vets in the facility allowed Sarah to take the animal to her clinic, despite it being closed that day, so they could treat Dobby as soon as possible. Upon arriving there, they got to work bathing him, trimming his nails, and getting ready to do blood tests to rule out any illnesses. Throughout the entire process, the dog never reacted angrily or grumbled, and even seemed thankful.
Dobby was then taken into the care of Pawsibilities Rescue, a no-kill animal rescue facility, where he got ongoing care while he recovered. He received medicinal baths to help treat his skin, and his fur finally grew back. While getting treatment, he luckily met his forever family and now has the love and support he requires.
