A Virginia dog is now a living inspiration for anyone who wants to be fit and healthy.
Meet Strudel, an obese golden retriever who shed all of her extra pounds by eating a well-balanced diet and exercising regularly. It was difficult at first, but her efforts paid off in the end.
When her owner died, the dog was brought to a Virginia animal shelter. She weighed 80 pounds at that time, roughly double the weight of an average golden retriever. Her weight is worrisome, and if it’s not addressed soon, it may result in health complications.
Hearts for Hounds took care of her until Wynn and Kristen Horton came and adopted her. Strudel’s new family enrolled her in the Zoom Beach fitness program in Virginia Beach. It is a dog facility that not only provides training but also other health-related services.
In June, Strudel got his first-ever lesson. The instructor started with a thirty-minute training session. According to John Cotthaus, the training facility’s owner, Strudel is an exceptional dog who doesn’t need constant encouragement to do any exercises.
The dog enjoys trying new things and spending most of her time running and playing. Since starting her workout routine this summer, she has already lost 54 pounds. Cotthaus promised that he would do his best to get the dog back into shape as quickly as possible.
According to Wynn, Strudel’s gradually improving. She also said that the dog was more energetic and active than usual. It’s as if she’s transformed into a whole different dog.
Every once a week, the dog attends agility classes. She also takes joint and thyroid supplements every day. Strudel’s weight loss journey became viral, and many people praised him for his achievement.
Anyone who wanted to start losing weight saw the dog as a motivation. They think that if Strudel can do it, so can they.
