When a lost dog is found, the person who found it might be tempted to take the dog home. However, even if that seems like a kind gesture, that’s not always the right decision. There might be someone looking for that dog who wants it back. In this case, taking it to a local shelter would be the better option.
The scenario above happened to a YouTube content creator named Rocky Kanaka. One day he stumbled upon a dog trapped in a ditch. His fans wanted him to keep the dog, but Rocky had a different plan in mind.
Before he went to an animal shelter, Rocky allowed the dog to stay in his home for one night. While inside his home, he put a tracker on it just in case it ran away. Fortunately, the dog didn’t try to escape, and Rocky was able to bring it to a veterinarian the next day.
During the visit to the vet, Rocky found out a few important details about the dog. It was an older female Australian shepherd mix. More importantly, the vets found a microchip on the dog. This means that the owner of that dog can be traced and contacted.
After the medical checkup, the dog was brought to an animal shelter called the San Diego Humane Society. The dog didn’t protest and obediently went into her assigned kennel. Rocky bid farewell to the dog before heading back to his car.
Rocky took his time to explain to his viewers why he chose to put the dog in the shelter. He knew that the people in charge of that shelter knew how to better care for her. Also, the microchip was a big factor that led to this decision. The shelter can contact the owner of that dog, and she will soon be back where she belongs.
