A fun-loving pup in Greenwood, South Carolina absolutely adores spending time in the woods. According to his owners, they let him run around because it made him so happy. They placed a GPS collar on him just in case he gets lost though he usually comes home after his playtime.
But one day, the family got worried when their dog went missing for quite a long time. They had to use GPS to find him. And when they did, they were shocked to discover where he was.
The poor dog was on a ledge in a rock quarry, 60 feet from the top. Amazingly, he seemed uninjured, but he was trapped.
Chasing critters
The family said that it was likely that their pet was chasing animals in the nearby woods, and he didn’t see the cliff. He fell straight down, landing on one of the small ledges on the side of the quarry. That most likely saved his life. The quarry was at least around 250 feet deep.
Knowing that there was no way that they could help their dog, the owners called for help. Rescuers from the Greenwood City Fire Rescue and Greenwood County Fire Rescue arrived one after the other and assessed the situation. They had to work together as it was a dangerous rescue mission.
Risky rescue
After devising a plan, one of the brave firefighters was lowered using ropes and pulleys. Even though it was risky, the rescuer was determined to get the dog to safety.
When he got to the ledge, the dog was so glad to see someone save him. The rescuer then tied the dog to his body, and they were lowered further to a much larger ledge. From there, they were able to get down to the quarry floor via a hundred-foot ladder. They were then able to drive out of the quarry.
The dog’s owners were so grateful for the help of the many brave men and women who came that day. Without them, there was no possible way that their dog could have been saved.
