The long wait is over for a pitbull/bull terrier mix named Rutabaga. After staying for 853 days in an Alabama shelter, she is finally getting her happily ever after! According to WSFA 12, the four-year-old canine found her permanent home in the loving arms of Jeremy Armstrong and his wife, Jessica Ventiere.
Ventiere, a self-proclaimed advocate of rescue dogs, has only had shelter dogs in her life, whom she adopted from at least four facilities. According to her, there was something about them that makes them the best dogs. They instantly fell in love with Rutabaga (or Ruti for short) after reading her profile and record-breaking stay at the East Alabama Humane Society. The lovable canine was considered the shelter’s longest-staying resident.
Her husband was the one who came across Ruti’s profile. Well aware of her soft spot for canines, he read Ruti’s bio to her – and it was all it took for them to decide she deserved to stay with them permanently. However, Ruti didn’t just have a sob story. Through their Facebook page, the shelter also advocated for her and claimed she was the perfect dog with no behavioral issues.
They revealed that Ruti had been patiently waiting for her perfect match. She went through a lot – from being surrendered by animal control, to raising nine puppies in the shelter and surviving her heartworm condition. And amidst all these, Ruti was more than ready to start a new life in a loving home.
After they shared the canine’s profile, the shelter received plenty of adoption requests for her. However, they felt that Armstrong and Ventiere were destined to be her fur parents. They fostered her for a week, where everything turned out well. Immediately, they decided to adopt her.
Of Ruti’s arrival in their lives, it seemed to be the perfect fit: Ventiere said it was as if she had been a part of them the whole time. The canine’s sweet and lovable personality matched right into their home. Currently, Ruti is having the time of her life with the couple, their six children, three other dogs, a turtle, two frogs, and some fish.
And the best news of all? They have gladly welcomed her as a part of their family!
