Juliette Wells, and her partner, Reece, were walking Peggy on their regular daily route last September when the English Staffy came across a small magpie covered in grass and looked very weak. As soon as the one-year-old pup saw the bird, she immediately alerted her fur parents about the situation.
The couple tended to the poor magpie right away, and since she was alone, they assumed that her parents might have abandoned her. They decided to reach out to a local wildlife specialist to get advice, and after learning what to do, Juliette and Reece brought the magpie home and named her Molly.
At first, having Molly in the house became an issue for Peggy as she had a fear of magpies. She wouldn’t go near the bird at all and would always run away every time Juliette allowed Molly to walk around the room. However, over time, the fur mom noticed that the Staffy was getting closer and closer to the rescue magpie.
She started sniffing her beak and lying next to her while they nap. Before the couple knew it, Peggy and Molly were inseparable. In fact, they were so close that the magpie refused to fly back to the wild and insisted on staying with the family. They also began spending every waking moment together, and it was clear how much they loved each other.
However, as if being close wasn’t enough, the motherly pup also started producing milk for the magpie! The couple initially assumed that she was pregnant, but the vet said what Peggy was actually experiencing was a phantom pregnancy. Apparently, it was common for dogs to produce milk, especially when they were nurturing someone.
For Peggy, that someone happened to be Molly. The couple couldn’t believe it was possible at all, but it just showed how tight the duo’s bond really was. Watch the Staffy and the magpie’s story here.
