One usual morning, a family living in Karditsa, Greece woke up to a big surprise. Inside their yard was a young dog, lying on the grass. They were delighted to see the pup, but they also felt sorry for him when they realized he had wounds all over his body.
Quickly, the family sought help and got in contact with Diasozo Animal Rescue (DAR Animal Rescue). They explained the situation and the group’s co-founder and lead rescuer, Ermioni Giannakou, instantly agreed to help.
Once at the site, Ermioni knew it was urgent for the dog to receive medical care. She carefully scooped up the dog and carried him into her car. From there, she drove him straight to the emergency animal clinic.
The rescuer believed the dog’s injuries were the result of another animal attacking him – probably a bigger stray dog or a wild animal perhaps. He had a huge cut on his neck, lacerations on his inner thigh, and wounds on and inside his ears.
The vets attended to the dog right away. They spent hours cleaning and disinfecting his wounds. They revealed his injuries were a few days old, and they feared that he might not survive.
Despite the dog’s little chance of survival, Ermioni and the rest of the vet team did everything they could to keep him comfortable. They knew he was a fighter. He wanted to live so they gave him everything he needed.
Eventually, the dog, now named Rocky, recovered. His wounds healed and he started to live a happy life. After everything he’d been through, he learned how wonderful life can get.
Soon after DAR Animal Rescue put him up for adoption, Rocky found his new home. He bid goodbye to his rescue friends and flew to Cumbria, United Kingdom, where his new mom and dad waited for his arrival. From a dying stray, Rocky is now a beloved part of his forever family.
