Sharan for Animals, a not-for-profit animal rescue group in Nashik District in Maharashtra, India, received a call about a dog locked inside a small room. The neighbors wanted to help the poor animal but it was trapped inside the owner’s house, and they simply couldn’t trespass. Fortunately, they knew to contact the organization for help.
When Yash Panchariya and Gautam Paikroa arrived at the given address, concerned residents showed them where to find the dog. They also informed the rescuers that the poor pup has been in such a horrible state for more than a year.
The dog, named Thunder, later on, was locked in a small dark room for over a year. He never had human interaction and never played with other dogs. As a result, he became aggressive. He barked and snarled at anyone who came close and even but his owners at one point.
When the rescuers went inside, they realized he wore a muzzle and was chained even though he was alone. The dog saw nothing but the pitch of darkness that filled the entire room. He lived in the dusk his entire life.
For everyone’s safety, the rescuers transported Thunder to the rescue shelter inside a net. They removed his muzzle and immediately worked on gaining his trust by offering him food. They knew that it would really be a long process but they promised to rehabilitate him no matter what.
Within two days since his rescue, Thunder seemed to understand that the people around him meant no harm. He no longer barked at his rescue friends and he learned how to stay calm whenever they approach to give him food. And a week later, he was ok to be around other dogs.
It may take months or even years to rehabilitate Thunder and prepare him for a new life. But with his rescue family beside him, there’s no doubt he’d recover from his dark past.
Sharan for Animals filed charges against Thunder‘s owners. While the trauma they caused to the dog can never be undone, the rescue group hoped that the incident taught everyone a lesson.
