Nikki Carvey, an animal lover in Los Angeles, wanted to help Herbie, a dog with hydrocephalus. Carvey took the puppy to a clinic, where a neurologist explained that the dog’s condition could be fatal if left untreated. The doctor also suggested that Herbie receive physical therapy at a canine rehabilitation center.
The specialist also gave the dog medication to help lower the amount of fluid in his skull and will perform brain surgery when he’s 6 months old. Despite his illness, Herbie remains a friendly dog. Hopefully, he will find a loving home after his surgery.
Don’t get a dog if you aren’t willing to take responsibility for its health
It’s not hard to get attached to a beautiful puppy and bring them home, but it’s harder to take care of them when they’re sick and need expensive medical treatment. If you can’t afford the medical bills, then you probably shouldn’t get a dog. Of course, all dogs have to go through some form of medical treatment at some point in their lives.
But there are always some dogs that require more medical attention than others. No one knows what kind of dog they will get. Some dogs are healthy their entire lives; others are not so lucky.
Take care of your pet
Pet owners should be ready to take care of their dogs whenever they get sick. Don’t think of getting one if you are not confident enough to take on that kind of responsibility. And if you love your dog, then make sure that you do everything in your power to help them get better.
Don’t just abandon them because they’re sick. Bring them to a veterinarian who can give them the proper treatment that they need. It may also be in your best interest to seek treatment for your dog if you want to avoid the legal consequences.
In most US states and European countries, it is a crime to not provide food, water, shelter, and medical treatment to your pet. If you’re not responsible enough, then you’d better think twice before getting yourself a pet.
