A lot of dogs can be held back by their anxiety, which prevents them from enjoying a fulfilling life. Fortunately, there are multiple ways to get an anxious dog to open up or be more confident. One woman took her dog on bike rides and outdoor adventures, which immensely helped in alleviating such anxiety.
Bette was a dog who didn’t have a lot of confidence in herself. Her owner, Fern, wanted to help get rid of the anxiety. The solution to the problem came to Fern when she was pondering about backpacks made for dogs. She then bought one that could hold a medium-sized dog like Bette.
Bette didn’t protest when Fern gave her a piggyback ride using the backpack. The owner continued to carry her while they went on bike rides. Bette felt a sense of calm because she knew she didn’t have to make much effort to explore the world. All she needed to do was trust Fern and be on her back.
The frequent bike rides allowed Bette to build her confidence. This allowed Fern to try new adventures with her dog. Because of their newfound confidence, Bette and Fern were able to go on a road trip from Los Angeles to Alaska.
Eventually, Bette no longer needed to be carried all the time. She became a dog that was always excited to go outdoors, whether jogging or on beach trips. She would often run alongside Fern whenever they were exercising.
Bette inspired Fern to write a book called “Adventure Dogs.” The book contained details of the adventures and explorations they experienced. Furthermore, Fern wrote about all the activities that dog owners can do with their dogs, some of which are unconventional yet fulfilling.
Fern and Bette’s relationship highlights how the mood of the owner is reflected by their dog. It also challenges exploring new ideas for the welfare of one’s pet and companion. Find out more about these two through the video below.
